"Into the Void" - Experiential Exhibition Proposal

Fleur Fortuné's "The Assessment" - 00:32:22
"Into the Void" is a proposal for an immersive spatial installation that invites visitors to step into an environment suspended between absence and illumination. Inspired by the underground workspace in the film The Assessment, the exhibition centres around a ceiling void—a zone of absolute darkness achieved through deep black paint—dissolving gradually down the walls in a chiaroscuro gradient. This descending void absorbs perception and disorients spatial awareness.
Artificial lighting is employed with precision to counterweight the darkness, generating an unexpected airiness and lift within the room. Light becomes material—soft, directional, and ephemeral—sculpting the void and animating its presence.
At the centre of the wall, a single black square interrupts the gradient: a symbolic aperture, a ‘window’ into the unknowable. It frames nothing and everything, becoming both a focal point and a threshold.
