Project Description: 
This piece explores the user's relationship with the environment and acknowledges the traditional Māori belief that water is a living energy, possessing a myriad of characteristics, shapes and moods. Here Skene focused on creating habitable artwork that gave equal importance to function, project theory, and art. This ottoman is designed to reflect rolling waves and embodies the many characteristics and forms of Tangaroa in an abstract representation.
Each vertical steel rod bends to its own rhythm, yet together they rise and fall as a single, surging wave, cresting at the top platform. This orthogonal platform, a quiet anchor amid the motion, embodies the ocean’s smooth stillness after the storm—paying homage to the ‘order’ beneath the chaos.
